The 1989-1990 season was the first year that teams were split into two division. Catholic of Baton Rouge won the
title under Coach John Cicchino. Goals by Jeff Kappal and Peter Couhig propelled the Bears to the title. Catholic's
only loss that year came at the hands of De La Salle in a preseason tournament. Catholic had to defeat Mandeville,
who was led by two-time All-State and present Dallas Burn player, Jason Kreis. Many of the players on the Catholic squad were
members of the Baton Rouge Jags, the national club runner-up in 1990 or 1991.
